1st Commission

I have now gotten my first commission :D  This will not simply be building a kit for a customer, I will be modifying the kit so that it looks like their original character drawing.  Should be interesting and definitely a challenge, but one I can't wait to start.

Bugger

Well mandarake emailed me and unfortunately the kit was not in stock so I will just have to keep an eye out for when a nice 舞-HiME resin kit comes in stock.  There's a nice 舞-Otome kit of Nina Wang on E2046 but I'd be afraid of it breaking during transit once it's built.

Original

I just ordered my first original resin kit today "Haruka Suzushiro" from Mai-HiME.  She was on mandarake for a very low price.  It says on the site that item stock status may not always be up to date, I'm really hoping she is is stock as a year ago I said to a friend that I would build a kit to give away as a contest prize.  I originally wanted to give away a Natsuki Kuga kit but after a year of waiting the damn thing is still not in stock on the site where I've always gotten my kits from (E2046).

Selling some stuff

So I'm selling some stuff on eBay that I never use, mostly games and DVDs but I'm also selling an unpainted resin kit, a 1/8 Fatima Belkut from Five Star Stories. I won it ages ago and it's not really my kind of kit so I thought I might as well sell it rather than have it just take up space and gather dust.

What happened, what will happen

So I just checked how long I had been working on Kanu and was surprised that it was only 2 months and 9 days, that includes the week in which I was doing nothing while I waited for paint thinner to arrive.  Guess that's what happens when you don't have much of a social life.

So I will be entering a gk contest and the submission date in late Januray, I'm probably going to build one of my smaller kits because I simply do not have the room for many more kits.  I really should check out the ikea site to get the dimensions for those glass display cases.

Just after checking the site, they don't actually give the sizes for each compartment but after doing a bit of maths the compartments look to be a couple of centimetres smaller than my largest kits, the largest that I've built so far is my Yoko kit, it says 31cm on the blog and on the site I bought her from but including the base and the gun, she is more like 42cm tall.  Guess I'll have to try eBay.

Kanu is finished

She was a bit of a pain to build but I love how she looks, despite the faults.

Building time tomorrow

Well here is the diorama painted, I just have to seal the paint tomorrow and then I can start putting Kanu together :)

MOAR PICTURES!!!

Some cracks appeared on the tree stump, the ones that go through the rings I actually liked so I kept them and just fixed the ones on the side.

Just checking to make sure Kanu fits ok.

And that is my diorama built, hopefully I won't have any more cracks to fix tomorrow and I'll start painting it on Friday.

Diorama time

Honestly I have no idea what I'm doing now, I'm just doing what feels right.  So first I glued a load of brass rods into the wooden base so that the clay has something to grip onto rather than just sitting on top of the base.  I then started putting on the putty within the outline on the first pic.  I had originally used too much so I used some tooth floss to remove the excess.  Once I had smoothed the top with one of my clay modelling tool things I roughed up the sides of the tree trunk to make it look more like bark and then created the rings on the top.

I've no idea how long it takes for this stuff to dry so I'll just leave it for a day or two and then start on the cracked earth.

Finished (painting Kanu)

AND that is me finished painting Kanu, just have to seal her head and the cloak and then I'll get to work on the diorama.

Friday 12 July 2013

Woo Hoo

SWEET! It actually worked, it takes a couple of coats hand painting the lines but I'm very pleased with the results.  I should be finished painting Kanu in 4 days and then I'll get started on the diorama which (hopefully) won't take longer than a week.

Wednesday 10 July 2013

Oops

I had forgotten all about Kanu's cloak.  I had to finish the re-priming yesterday and today I started working on the lines.  I'm hand painting them grey first so that the magenta will (hopefully) be the same shade as it is for the rest of the clothing, which was primed grey rather than white.  I don't know yet whether I will be masking the lines to paint with my airbrush or just hand painting the magenta.

Monday 8 July 2013

So close

So close to finishing her, just have a few more coats of paint touch ups for her boobs, her eyes (doesn't she look pissed) and her earring.  Still have to create the diorama, no idea how long that's going to take.

Sunday 7 July 2013

Masking

Well I did the masking today and thankfully no paint got ripped off though there was some paint that seeped through the tape onto Kanu's skin.  Hopefully I can fix that by hand rather than having to do more masking.

Saturday 6 July 2013

Shading

And the skin has been shaded and sealed.  Tomorrow I think I'll do some masking and paint her boob wraps and socks.

Friday 5 July 2013

Give me some skin

And the skin is finally painted, it looks very light in the photo since it was taken with my iPod and I just used some basic editing in photoshop to lighten the photo, plus I haven't done the shading yet.  The shading will be done tomorrow and the skin will look fabulous.

First post

Here it is, my first blog. The site isn't quite finished yet, I still have to create my logo and re-learn how to do some things (I haven't done any sort of web design in about 10 years).  Hopefully I will be posting updates regularly.
